Frequently Asked Questions

What is Image Converter?

Image Converter is a free desktop application for Windows that converts your images between formats, such as PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP. You can convert files one by one or process an entire folder in bulk, which makes it ideal for preparing website images before deployment.

Is Image Converter really free?

Yes, completely free. There is no premium tier, no usage limit and no hidden cost. The project runs on voluntary donations from users who find it useful, so paying is never required.

Do I need an internet connection to use it?

Only to download the installer. Once Image Converter is installed, every conversion runs entirely on your computer. No image or folder is ever sent to an external server, so you can work with private or client files without worry.

Which formats can I convert?

Image Converter supports PNG, JPG, GIF and WebP, both as input and output. Pick the format your project needs, WebP is a great choice when file size matters most, but you are never limited to it.

Can I convert several images or folders at once?

Yes. You can drag and drop a single file, a folder or several folders together. The tool keeps your original folder structure in the output, so a batch conversion never turns into a mess of loose files.

What are the system requirements?

Image Converter runs on Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64 bit). The installer is about 13 MB and no special hardware is needed, the app stays light even on older machines.

How do I install Image Converter?

Download the installer from this page, run the .exe file and follow the short setup wizard. The whole process takes less than a minute and no restart is needed afterward.

Is there a portable version without an installer?

Not yet. A portable version is planned for a future release. For now, the installer is the only available option, and you can uninstall the app at any time from Windows Settings, under Apps.

Does it work on macOS or Linux?

Not at the moment. Image Converter is currently available for Windows only. macOS and Linux versions are being considered, so keep an eye on future updates if you use another system.

Why should I convert my images before publishing a website?

Smaller image files load faster, which improves both user experience and search ranking. Converting a full images folder to WebP in one pass lets you optimize an entire website in minutes, without touching a third party service.
